The Sweet Life
Travel Time
February 8, 2009

Summer is a good time to travel. Although this is a busy time of the year, this is my favorite time as well. Each year about this time I try and make it a point to go see some of my family. My family is spread out all across the states. Though it can be a stressful time, I try to divide my time up between the family that I have left. To me, this is a great time of the year to travel. It is a great time to learn as well. With the leaves changing colors, this is a good time to help keep your kids entertained with a little education while on the road. You can show them all the different colors of the leaves and explain to them why this happens. When they return to home or school, they will have a new story to tell their friends and classmates. This is also a good time to help the kids start creating scrap books or something of that nature.

When you are on the road, I am quite sure that the kids annoy you with the most famous question, "are we there yet?" I am sure that this is a time when you may want to pull your hair out, but you have to remember that you were a kid once as well. Kids are very curious, and they want to know what is going on while they are on the road. To help keep them from being bored while you are on the road, why not buy the a game or something? This will also help keep them quiet while you are traveling. Kids are very active, and the fact that they are stuck in a car, makes them want to talk and ask questions a lot more than at other times. As you travel, it may be a good idea to stop and let the kids ramble once in a while. If you have a long distance to go, it may also be a good idea to stop and rest for the night, especially if you have kids. This will help ensure that both you and the kids don't get to restless while you are on your trip.

Do you plan to travel somewhere this season? If so, may I advise you to be very careful as you travel. This is predicted to be one of the busiest travel seasons on record. If you are one of the ones who will be traveling alone this year, I want to give you a few pointers to help keep you safe as you travel. One of the most important factors to remember is to let others know where you are going. You may also want to let them know what routes you will be taking to get where you are going. You may also want to give them a time frame that it will take you to get to your destination. If you follow these simple steps, you are sure to have a safe and enjoyable time of travel.

Word Art : A Message
February 4, 2009

You may not know about the different types of fonts but you've been a part of visual words that speak to you without saying a word. Street signs and billboards send their message visually to be seen by everyone. They messages are very clear, it was like they are shouting it out.

Some see the form of communication. Some see the message.  You see and you understand it happens that quick. But look past the words, the message, the picture, or brand, and what is left is the type of font that word is written in.

This word art is the focus of many successful marketers that incorporate artistic presentations of word messages to influence actions in a way that would effectively showcase what was being presented.

Fonts are the different repetitive styles that can be included in typed words used as a communication tool for personal or public use. Memory cards of thoughts or press release notices that can reach millions of subscribers, all looking at the words as you want them to.

What do the words say? What is the message? If it is art, then it goes beyond the message. The message gets old and outdated, but the words continue to have relevance because of the style. Word art can be seen almost everywhere.

Expressions of font art can be customized through text software. Experiment with word art to get more returns on advertising dollars. Incorporate an artistic side to your marketing material and the art becomes the focus and the message is passed on and then stored.

It is important to leave the reader  something more than the words that you would want them to remember. The way in which the words are written can be stylized in many ways that makes the content of the message unforgettable.

Many religious writers used word art in their scripts to give the reader a memorable walk down a visual story board of artistic letters and inscriptions. The type face art form was born, and though underutilized today, can be quite effective on driving conversions for content that uses word art to influence viewers.

A great visual resource for type face font art lovers can be found at flickr.com. There are some very interesting photographic trips through areas of the world that use different type fonts to express what they want to promote in words. Painted, vinyl, engraved and printed, the type face fonts of the world can be best seen on the regional streets of cities and towns around the world. Search for font pictures on the best picture sites and get ready to see words in a different light. It will move you to taste and feel and smell more things than you expected through the use of font art.

The Environment Should be a Priority, too
February 2, 2009

It's pretty clear that the economy is a priority for just about everyone right now. Even some of the people who were relatively well off  are cutting back and feeling the pinch. People have lost their jobs, and the economy is really struggling. Foreclosures are being seen in huge numbers. The American people as a whole seem a a little lost and not sure what to do next. There have been statements made that this will make the country stronger and that we have to rebuild from the ground up. While this is certainly true from an economic standpoint, having a need to do some rebuilding on the country gives its residents a wonderful chance to rebuild from an environmental standpoint, as well. We should take that opportunity, because the country and the world can't keep going like they have in the past. Too much damage is being done to the planet and the people who live on it, but we have a chance now, with all of this restructuring, to do something different.

The main problem is that people are so focused on their economic problems that they fail to see anything else. It's not as though they can really be blamed for this, because the economy is definitely worth being concerned about today. But it's important to remember that there's a lot more to life, as well. By making the environment a priority we can actually help the long-term recovery and stability of the economy. Cleaner fuels are something that have been talked about by politicians for a very long time, but nothing had been done to create and utilize them. After what happened to oil and gas prices recently, it's time to get more serious about finding better and more efficient ways to operate our cars and our homes. Drilling for more oil isn't the long-term answer. It's hard on the planet, and eventually it won't be there anymore. Then what? Since there are so many problems right now, it's the perfect time to make the changes that have been needed for a long time. The new administration seems committed to making changes, but people all over the country can start making their own changes, too, and they can tie them to the economy.

Carpool to work, for example. It's better for the environment and it saves you money. You could also start a garden, especially if you've been laid off or are only working part-time and have some free time to devote to it. You'll get fresh food without pesticides and preservatives, and you can get it cheaper than you would at the grocery store. Recycling is important, too, and there are places that will still give you a few cents for your bottles, cans, and other recyclable materials at the same time you're helping out mother nature. Make that trip to the recyclers when you're out running other errands and you won't be wasting gasoline. With a little thought and ingenuity you can couple your economic priorities with your environmental priorities and help everyone benefit.

Travel Bug Got You Down?
February 1, 2009

So you want to travel? Are you sure? It takes planning, money, transportation, time, now there’s the rub. Who has time? With all of us making sure we keep our existing jobs, find a job if you don’t have one, or even, add more income on the side by finding two, three, four jobs to cover things like your rent, your mortgage, gas to drive to work and eat? Who has the time, or for that matter, who has the money?? Not middle America, I’m sure. Planning? You can do that in your sleep. Most of us dream of traveling to far away places. Money? Back to the job thing. Transportation, I think I covered that in the time, and money area, who has enough time, or money to travel? Gas, what a joke! Even if you have a hybrid car, it’s still way too much money to go across country. Fly, like in a plane? Have you checked out how much plane tickets are these days? I tried recently to go on one of those name-your-own- price and made a proposed bid on a trip and I swear, I heard William Shatner, laughing. I’m serious! Oh well, it was worth a shot. Sometimes, you get lucky and no one is paying attention when you put in $60 round trip to London. Ok, that was back to planning and dreaming, sorry.

However, don’t be discouraged, there will come a day when we can afford to travel again. I believe in America and what we can do when we ALL put our heads together. Until then, if you are sitting in front of your computer monitor, or blackberry, and you are reading my article on travel, then by golly, you have the answer at your fingertips. Of course you do have to have some time to plan a trip, but if you have an hour or two to yourself, you can plan a trip right there…on the internet silly. It has every reason to be the best planning tool in the world. If you do your research, you can look at all the possibilities! Google, now they have really come a long way, have you seen Google Earth? They now have a map tool that takes you to cities 3D, you can walk down the streets practically. Armchair Travel. Now it isn’t as great traveling physically, but you can almost smell the food cooking in the side street restaurants. If you walk around that city, you may just decide it isn’t the place you wanted to go in the first place but ah…that’s the beauty of it. You can click back to your search page and go somewhere else instead of becoming upset that you made a mistake and wasted a lot of money going there. The travel bug is strong in most all of us. Take a break, sit back and enjoy what the internet brings you for free. Google it!

Life and Music
January 28, 2009

What does music mean to you? Music says lots about the person that you are. Music can also be used as a way to sooth your mind What types of music do you like. My tastes change with the seasons. In the summer,I am a country fan.Country music seems to fit me, as I do like to party and have a great time during this time of the year. Country music has always been a favorite of mine. When I was smaller, that is what I grew up on. During this time in my life, that is all that was allowed to be played in the home.

As my parents are getting older, they seem to have changed their taste of music to Classic rock. That was the strangest thing that I have ever heard of. I guess as we get older, our life and tastes of it change. If we ever played any type of rock in the home when we were growing up, there would have been trouble. I guess that means that both my parents and their looks on life have changed One thing that has not changed with me is the fact that I love the beat of country music. I feel that many of the songs say a lot about me and the person that I am. Many other people have different tastes, and that is up to them, but I have tried to change, and I always seem to turn back to the beat of country and western music. Each type of music that there is tells a story both about the person that wrote them and the people that listen to that type of music. In times of trouble music may relax you. Why not try it the next time that you feel down and depressed. When all else seems to be failing you, music is always there for you.

I feel at times that music is my best friend. There are a lot of times that when I sit alone and meditate to the sound of music, things come to me that help calm me. No matter what seems to be going on in my life at the present time, both music and God seem to help me get through the situation. Music always seems to listen to you. Many of your friends and family will turn their backs on you and music will still be there for you. It never talks back to you. When I was a child, I was always having some sort of different surgery, due to the disability that I have. No matter the amount of pain that was in, as long as I had just the sound of calm music, the pain seemed to always fade away. No amount of medicine that the doctors could ever give me could replace the healing that took place just to the sound of music. The next time that you feel down, why not turn on soft music, and test my theory? It will work for you too.

Famous Celebrity Families that Work
January 27, 2009

There are celebrity children, and then there are children of celebrities. Celebrity children are children that become stars of television and movies. Celebrity children are children born or adopted into the families of adult movie and television stars. Being a child celebrity is almost the same as being a child of celebrities because of the attention that is given to many movie and television star families.

The best examples of celebrity parents that manage to keep their families and their fans happy at the same time. Tome Cruise and Katie Holmes along with Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are the most popular couples with children. Each family is made of a combination of adopted and naturally born children and top rated movie stars that the public love to see together. These families represent the best of celebrity parents and children of celebrities that manage to stay together and keep the public happy at the same time.

Tom and Katie Cruise’s family is made of two movie superstars and three children. Surie Cruise is Tom and Katie’s only child. Tom has two adopted children from a previous marriage with Nicole Kidman and together the Cruises can be seen around the world enjoying time working and playing in the lifestyle afforded by a career as a movie and television star. Not only one big name, but two huge movie stars making one big star-filled family is harder to manage than you think. With the public wanting more and more intimate details of families like these, it’s a miracle that these families are able to stay happy and healthy, and together.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie make up the next superstar family of movie stars and kids that give new meaning to families that are in the public spotlight. The combination of family matters and public demands has always been something that the biggest celebrities have had to deal with. Cameramen waiting around every corner just to take pictures of a family get together or outing would have any rational person going out of their mind. The big name movie star families like the Cruises and the Pitts have a different point of view on the intrusion. They understand that their fans want to know more and more about them. They take control of their lives by having the appropriate security and protection for their family and friends. Famous celebrities like the Cruises and Pitts will tell you though, that with all the attention it is hard to be just a regular family sometimes.

With the Pitts, the family structure is about love and ability. By adopting internationally, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have utilized their travels and authority to take a child from poverty and take them into their busy, high value, lives that are the big stars like the Cruises and Pitts. Some people consider these adoptions to be above and beyond the scope of what charity is, because they are taking these children onto their families as their own. It’s amazing how far these families go to be public and private at the same time. The Pitts and the Cruises were selected as the best celebrity families because they have not let all the pressure cause a divide in between family members that eventually result in the breakup of some of the most high-profile celebrity couples and families.

Food
January 26, 2009

Many foods shape the American nation and we will discuss a few in this melting pot you may love or love to hate.

The Pizza
Americans began to start noticing and eating pizza in the 1950’s after a bunch of well known American-Italian celebrities such as Joe DiMaggio, Jimmy Durante, Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin began eating it and singing the famous song: “When the moon hits your eyes like a big pizza pie, that’s amore.”

The Hamburger
Americans love Hamburgers, yet these are not burgers made of Ham but rather of beef. The reason they are called Hamburgers is because the word Ham-Burger originated in Germany, in the city of Hamburg.
A Hamburger is ground beef that is usually cooked on the barbecue grill, and served on a plain, onion, sesame or whole wheat bun. Some people like their Hamburgers with ketchup others like them with mustard, and some put both on their Hamburger. Next are the onion, tomato and pickle. If you add a piece of American cheese on it, then the plain Hamburger turns into a delicious Cheeseburger. Enjoy with French fries, potato chips, Cole slaw or a simple potato salad.

Fajitas
Fajitas are many but there is only one Beef fajita, the rest of them; the vegetarian, cheese, shrimp and chicken fajitas are not the original Fajita. A butcher who lived in Texas coined the term “Fajita” in 1984. In Mexico you don’t hear the word fajita being used in the sense we use it here in the United States, but you hear the Mexican cowboys talk about a “faja” meaning belt, and “fajita” being a little belt. These cowboys would grill the cow’s diaphragm, also now known as the “skirt steak” in English, on outdoor grills and eat them with the help of some cooked beans and a couple tortillas!

Apple Pie
There are many delicious pies such as peach pie, shoofly pie, strawberry pie, blueberry pie and so on. But Apple pie is something else. You can use any and all types of different apples to create your very own apple pie. Put some whipped cream on top or add some vanilla ice cream and now you can have Apple Pie Dessert.

French Fries
Did you know that French fries were invented in New York? When you deep fry a potato you get a French Fry, it’s as simple as that although today health conscious people bake their French fries in the oven. In England they call a French fry “chips” if the potato has been cut in a thick strip and only long thin strips of potato can be called French fries.

New England Clam Chowder
Made from potatoes, milk or cream, flour, bacon, onion and clams this chowder is great when it’s cold outside. The recipe must stay the same and tomatoes were not allowed to be used as one of its ingredients. In fact in 1939 a bill was passed in Maine that made it illegal for anyone to add tomatoes to this white chowder, sometimes also called Boston Clam Chowder. Crackers however in your clam chowder are a must!

The Movie Entertainment Industry
January 21, 2009

The movie entertainment industry has been a fast growing industry since before, and incredibly enough, it is still a growing industry up to this very day.

People nowadays tend to be too busy working and earning money that they embrace with open arms every leisure time they get. They want to maximize their time of relaxation and get the most fun out of this time. Sitting back, relaxing, and being entertained are the idea of leisure time for the majority. This is the sole reason why the movie entertainment industry is such a click. It is easily enjoyed and welcomed by the crowd, most especially if it is one that entices their fields of interest.

Surviving Through the Years

The movie entertainment industry has really gone a long way. Comparing the movies from the 1850s or earlier with the cinematic view and entertainment we get nowadays, will help you realize this. From the visual quality, sound effects, and the media edits and superficial add on needed to bring a certain effect (i.e. flying, laser lights and what knots), have really proven itself improved over the long run.

Factors That Affect the Movie Industry

In this field of the entertainment industry, there are a lot of factors and people behind the success or failure of these movies. There is the media factor, the quality of special and visual effects that your crew can bring in. The actors and actresses, the cast, to consider is also a significant decision to make. You will need to bring in those with talent and charisma. People, who have been in the entertainment industry for quite sometime now, those with already a big fan base, will also be a plus as to how well your movie will be appreciated or will turn out. The theme of the movie is another big factor, you have to find out what the majority of the population will want to watch and give them just that. If you cater to the majority’s needs, you will surely have a wide scope of possible customers to the kind of movie entertainment you sell to them.

Different from Other Entertainment

There are other entertainments available but as to why this movie making entertainment has been around for a long time now, and still widely appreciated, we can only make assumptions. The movie entertainment is one that has a big possibility of getting to its viewers and touching people’s lives. It is having the viewers have a glimpse on a certain different perspective in life, one that the writer or director would like to share. It is different other entertainment like music, wherein you get only the pleasure of sound, the movie industry offers you the visual and sound pleasure, sometimes even more. Good movies also give you something to think about and reflect upon. Others just give you the flow of the story and scenes to absorb and take in which save you some effort from thinking. It can also help you feel that you do have a life, it gives you time to feel and react to different scenes from the movies. It gives you a break from the usual hard day’s work that leaves you feeling indifferent at times.

A Brazilian breakaway!
January 14, 2009

Breathtaking beaches, gorgeous greenery, tantalizing temperatures and a captivating culture are only a few of the things that guarantee to steal your heart while vacating in Brazil. A country renowned for its sexy samba sounds, fantastic football players and friendly generous natives, Brazil has something to offer every style of traveler.

Rio de Janeiro is noted as one of the hippest places to stay while visiting Brazil. The city that never sleeps will have beach lovers, adventurists, clubbers and scenery seekers all buzzing with a fever after only a short stay.

Copacabana and Ipanema, beaches made infamous by great artistic talents such as Frank Sinatra and Tom Jobim. Both beaches hold true to their reputable images and within only a stone throw from the bustling delights of Rio de Janeiro’s electric city, these beaches are suited to the young and energetic travelers seeking out some fun.

Surfers looking to catch some waves will love the surf scene in Rio de Janeiro. With an array of surf hostels situated up along Rio’s coastline there is a variety of accommodation to suit any budget. Visitors staying within the city may avail of the surf bus, a designated bus that carries enthusiastic surfers to the best waves Rio has to offer. Meet friendly similar minded people on the journey. Catch the latest surf DVD’s while you are swiftly transported to your desired area. Inexperienced surfers can tag along with one of the many surf schools allowing them to have a go at catching some waves.

Rio de Janeiro’s culture clearly escalates around the beach scene, however, Rio has more to offer than just sand and sea. Situated downtown are plenty of marvelous museums and cultural centers. The old colonial architecture clearly states the presence of Portuguese dominance. Lapa, a neighborhood within the city is internationally recognized for its historical features and lively nightlife. The perfect spot to take in the sights and have a coffee during the day before allowing its stimulating night vibe to take you through to the small hours of the following morning. Many of Brazil’s top musicians, poets and writers gather within Lapa to nurture their artistic souls.

If you are looking to relax and unwind avoiding the hustle of the city life the state of Rio de Janeiro offers idyllic islands on which you may soothe away your stress. Ilha Grande is less than four hours from the city with buses running at frequent intervals to the port areas. Many Brazilians love to use the services of local fishermen when sailing to the island as they are both cheaper and add to the overall experience. Most of the island is uninhabited and remains a natural shrine to its innate beauty. A sailing trip around the island is a great way to spend a day sightseeing and snorkeling. For the explorer the island has some beautiful caverns and forests to keep you occupied for your duration.

Things you must do and see while vacating in Rio de Janeiro:

1. Catch a football game in Maracana one of the world’s largest sporting stadiums, witnessing first hand how the Brazilians take supporting in style to another level.
2. Spend a night partying within one of the local Samba schools. Feel the locals pour their hearts and souls into carnival preparation.
3. Climb the Pão de açucar (Sugar loaf Mountain) with the aid of a friendly local guide. If you’re put off by the 390 foot climb, take advantage of the modern cable car that operates on a regular basis straight to the top. When you reach the peak soak up the unrivalled 360 degree views.
4. Regardless of faith or religious beliefs O Christo (The Christ) towering tall above the city of Rio de Janeiro is a number one ‘must do’. The sheer enormity of such a man-made statue will take your breath away along with the panoramic views that lie beneath.
5. Eat and drink like a local. Feijoada a typical dish for carioca’s (locals from Rio) can be savored in just about any eatery. A dish based principally on various cuts of pork meat and stewed with black beans is usually served with white rice, farofa and slices of orange. Wash the dish down with a local favorite a caipirinha. This alcoholic beverage is based on their own distilled drink known as cachaça. Caipirinha is a mix of cachaça, local fruits sugar and ice. A great way to quench your thirst on a hot summer’s day.
6. The botanical gardens were created by the Portuguese royal family and have kept their heir of majesty to this day. Strolling through the beautiful gardens is a great way to spend a warm sunny evening.
7. Feira de são cristovão (the north east tradition fair) allows those who are unable to travel out of Rio de Janeiro to sample a small taste of the northern traditions. Hundreds of stalls fill the area selling everything from local cuisine and artifacts to popular tourist remembrances. At night time the fair comes to life with live shows and bands.

Rio de Janeiro will invigorate your senses and re-ignite your passions while at the same time giving you a holiday you will never forget.
